The Steve Jarvis No Songs UK tour

Back in the late 90's i went to see Megadeth play at Nottingham and being 18 or 19 at the time spent nearly all day in the pub. When we got in the venue the support act, a British band called Earthtone 9 were just coming on to the stage. They were rubbish, i mean really rubbish, i have heard lawn mowers that could hold a better tune. None of their music they played had any meldoy apart from a wall of noise, which i suppose in hindsight may be the fault of the set up being off but everything they played sounded exactly the same.

Anyway after they had finished and Megadeth had played we went to the rock club next door where i was interviewed by a reporter from Kerrang looking for some quotes about both bands. LIttle did i know that Earthtone 9 had been picked out as a band to watch by Kerrang so my less than encouraging remarks of them seemingly didn't go down too well. In my mind i was sharp and witty but in reality the large amount of beer resulted in me ending up with the quote of "It all sounded the same they've got no songs" which was the only quote they printed followed by their witter response of "oh but they do Young Jarvis". Baring in mind when they wrote the response they were not likely drunk thats a poor response. Still most of my friends thought this was hillarious and even now its occasionally mentioned.

The Band, or Kerrang went one step further and named the next tour the "Steve Jarvis No songs UK Tour". The band though apparently tried to contact me but mysteriously I couldn't be found in Rotherham's phone book. Well Hmmmm i was 18 and still living at home so naturally the phone was not in my name. It's a shame they didn't try a little harder, i would have loved to tell them exactly where their music went wrong. They did go wrong because by the end of 2002 they were no more. I did read they have reformed in 2010 though and this article: EXCLUSIVE! earthtone9 reform – interview & photo gallery | Thrash Hits. States that they were struggling from being minorleague transitioning into the Major League of UK metal. That's a laugh in itself as they were never more than a rubbish band that made some noise, major league of UK metal indeed.

I personally think the real reason they split is thye couldn't deal with the stinging critisim of a very drunk 18/19 year old and it ate away at them until they split :D
