Over the years there are a number of game types from varying games which don't appear to have been replicated on newer games or even newer version of the same game. Some of these we have spent hours playing at LAN's
Checkpoint Stampede & Carmageddon. Carmageddon is the best Multiplayer network/LAN game ever, it was fun to play easy to handle and had a wide range of game types and options. The best of the options was Checkpoint stampede, no game that i know of had an instant 30 second scramble to not be out first. Last year Clutch was released which was basically a Carmageddon cover game but for some reason they left out multiplayer support, which is criminal negligence in my book.
Survivor on AvP2 Survivor was basically a deathmatch style game but the twist was the first person to die became an Alien and from then on had to hunt down the Humans, as a Human you get 1 point for every second you survive and the winner is the one with most points after a set number of rounds. I loved this game style and we still play it now despite the game being a number of years old. It adds a bit of randomness to a standard First Person Shooter game. There is a new Alien Versus Predator game coming out and i really hope its included as a game style.
Assault and Bombing run on Unreal Tournament 2004 For some reason when Unreal Tournament 3 was released they removed the best game styles from the game, Assault and Bombing run added 2 different dimensions to the game play. Every FPS game has Deathmatch and Capture the flag but these were both great fun to play. Sadly they are no longer in the latest game I hope the next incarnation has them.
Unfortunately LAN support in general seems to be being removed from games in favour of online only play, I can see the reason to stop piracy but having a LAN game available would make it easier for everyone to host a LAN session without a Super fast Net connection which usually gets capped very quickly when there are 6 or 8 of you using it to play games or download games and patches through steam.
